The oval shaped fruit is separated from its enormous kernel and the remaining ripe Marula fruit pulp is fermented. This produces a wonderfully clear spirit which is left to mature for 2 years in oak barrels. After maturation the Marula liqueur is mixed with the finest, fresh cream till at a silky smooth consistency.
The result is the rich yet soft taste of Amarula Cream with an alcohol content of 17%, one of South Africa’s most successful exports.
Also an Armarula trust has been established to help sustain local communities whilst being conservation conscious.
